Grid tied system from Solaric

Solaric-Residential-Solar

Solaric Solux BLACK solar panel 265M

This 5 kW system costs P463,000 system from Soloric (excluding  installation of P28,000.  Grid tied means it is connected to the power supply from the utility and does not have batteries.  The system consist only of solar panels and an inverter.  When there is a brown out, there is no power.   It works only during daytime

This is  competitively priced system since the benchmark price is $4.17 per watt installed for off grid. So a 5 kw would cost about a million.  But the drawback here is that the payment terms is 50% down and 50% upon installation.

That is where solar financing comes in from Majorem Lending

The 5 kW system gives a net savings of about P8,000  per month.  and recommended for homes with electric bill of P15,000 to 20,000 per month.  Total electric production would be about P2.4 million over a 25 year period (600% return.)

New inverters for solar pumps

#solarpanels at every rooftop

Frequency inverters to decrease pump speed

Pedrollo solar pump inverters

Our supplier told us that they got a supplier providing inverters that could easily convert the pumps from the utility into solar panel array use.

All that we have to do is to install the solar panel array and the inverter which he will provide to convert the existing pumps and system (maybe plug and play) without replacing existing pumps.

The solar power pumps could be used for:

1.  fresh water operations (for drinking)
2.  for STP (sewage treatment plant);  anything that needs electric motors to run;

3 phase solar inverter from Alibaba

Comparison of solar water system with diesel

The article/website would show that solar water system are cheaper and more advantageous over  diesel in the long run

As we biked yesterday at Quezon, this writer saw numerous pumping stations of water district.  These pumps use a lot of electricity and would seem to constitute 50%+ of water costs.

The fuel rollback would seem to be appeasement to future shocks from electricity costs increase.  Do not be surprised if Meralco, a DU under the control of a monopoly, and (probably with ERC as its ally) would see electricity costs running up to P20.00+ in the next 10 years.  It is time that many water facility operators change to solar:   golf courses, farms, local water districts, farms.

Solar Irrigation Systems

Dankoff Solar Pumps for Irrigation

From Energy Matters on Solar Pump

Agriculture solar for ranches, big farms

Another area where solar power can be tops is in irrigation. It can provide unlimited free power for irrigation of farms in distant locations.  While the gasoline and diesel powered pumps can be much cheaper initially, say less than P20,000 (using Robin gas engine with attached pumps all ready) a  solar powered pumps can cost as much as $1,500 (roughly P75,000) and certainly not affordable for many farmers. But the diesel ex pump of P40.00 per liter can cost as much as P100.00 per liter if you consider the cost of storing and transporting the fuel to the distant location.

This makes sense in the Phil which is an agricultural country and imports most of its diesel and gasoline requirements

A typical system would include:

1.  solar array,
2.  electric motor
3.  bore pump

SM North Went Solar - How about you?

Making the Green Switch (From L-R): Sonny Belmonte, Jericho Petilla, President Benigno S. Aquino III, Leandro Leviste, and Hans Sy
The green switch at SM

The post featured the ground breaking move by SM to go solar.  They installed a 1.7 mW at the rooftop of SM north which is the largest so far for rooftop installation in the Philippines.  This would have entailed a huge cap ex.  That would be about $4,000 x kW and would have cost $6,800,000 x 45 or P306,000,000 a rather hefty investment.

The installation is enough to power 1,000 homes and consist of 5,760 panels installed atop the multilevel parking of SM North.

This is SM contribution to help avert power shortage in 2015, save electricity bills, , and contribute to green environment

SM Dasmarinas and MoA will be next. (If you are SM and you have huge power bills, you will employ the same strategy)  SM Marikina and Masinag will be redesigned too using Solar Energy

The supplier is Solar Phil, headed by Leandro Leviste, a 21 Yale student, son of Loren Legarda.

Power inverters basics

#solarpanels at every rooftop

Power inverters are basic components of solar system.  They convert DC to AC (the house current being used)  however we foresee the manufacture of DC appliances.  The CP, laptops, and electric fans are now DC powered.   Inverters use energy and energy can be further saved by doing away with inverters.  (why transformers are hot and need cooling system  --->like in high voltage transmission  --> the reduction in voltage cause generation of heat.

Credit Union financing of solar

From Sovensolar - Economics the guiding light in solar progress

This is obvious in Vermont Community Solar's partnership with Green Mountain Credit Union. They are pushing the solar industry forward by supplying loans to people secured by only the panels. No home equity need by tied up by what may seem like another big ticket item. The Credit Union see that solar equity is a stable investment. This is because PV panels will keep producing electricity even if the owner of the panel defaults on the loan. The credits can still accrue without inflation. Unlike electric rates which inflate at even a higher rate than the dollar.
What this study by Citigroup highlights is that Green Mountain Credit Union is not alone in this sort of thinking. Investment in solar has never looked so good. This is true both in a green energy mind set as well as a stabilizing economic force.

Solar power costs expected to drop down dramatically in coming years

#solarpanels at every rooftop

Rizal Philippines  |  December 9, 2014

From Reneweconomy

Solar costs are expected to drop down to 4 cents a kwh (currently at about 12) in the coming decade as IEA predicts sun to be the leading source of energy by 2050 and expects the investments in solar to double.

Rooftop solar panel (we intend to finance many of those installations locally contact Isah  +632-651-4201 or at majorem.lending@gmail.com are unbeatable as #distributednenergy source

If the IEA figures are right solar share of power gen will reach 16% of world's total up from 11% of current share and will require about $44 trillion in investments, but save $114 trillion  in fossil fuel costs, and save on CO2 emissions.  Most of these will be coming from China and India.

Solar thermal is lagging behind because of lack of appreciation of its capacity, ie ability to generate power at night, and lack of dispatchability (fixed cap ex)

Paolo Frank the IEA expert on solar most of the solar will be installed in buildings, rooftops, parking lots, and more than half will be for business.

Bias vs solar in the Philippines- is it justified.

#solarpanels at every rooftop

It should be about $0.05 next year (or P2.50) equal to natural gas.

In the energy sector in the Philippines, solar energy is not much in favor:

1.   Power costs are expensive compared to hydro (about P2.00 kwh) or nuclear (same amount)  coal  (P3.00/kwh)  bunker fuel  (P3.00 kwh)   Then it goes up solar about P8.00, diesel reciprocating P20.00.  For base loads, solar can not be used.

2.  High FIT (feed in tariff and ERC has restricted the load that is eligible for  FIT) of P8.00+

Elsewhere in the world, in Germany, the highest user, the rooftop solar has put even clean burning fossil fuel plants like CNG/LNG plants.   In Australia, solar panels and other renewables has put fossil fuel fired plants (coal) out of business (well because of the very high carbon tax in Australia -  they are very serious about their carbon emission, greenhouse gases, global warming/climate change and for RIGHT REASONS)

Price range of solar power kits (solar generator set)

#solarpanels at every rooftop

From Eco business links

Off grid solar power generator set - consist of:

2 solar panels

2  x 100 aH batteries
1 charging station

This solar generator set can set you back by $2,000 (about P90,000)

A gasoline diesel generator 1 kVA would cost about P25,000 but consume for an 8 hour standby mode of about P100,000 worth of gasoline.  Break even on first year? ( or lamang ang solar?  P90,000 lang ang cap ex at op ex!!)

The price range is from $1.53 to $5.00 per watt (P45.00 to P245.00 watt.  So the quotes to us of P155,000 to P195,000 per kW looks within the price range.   However these are US prices and we expect that since we are near source -  China, our price would be much much lower.  Has the port congestion and BOC problems contributed to higher PV cost?

Plugged solar a true DIY kit

plug and play solar

From Clean Tecnica

From Renewable Energy - plugged solar

Plugged solar

Perhaps, this is the real DIY Mackoy - a real kit. All you have to do is arrange the solar panels, connect the wires to the inverter, and plug the inverter to the any convenience outlet of the household.  Maybe this is what Mr Bartlome is telling me

What are some of the solar products that we must research?

#solarpanels at every rooftop

There are a number of products to be produced locally worth looking into:  if we are are to be viable:

1.  DC fans

2  LED lamps  (household) and street lamps

3.  Affordable  250 watts household kit;  or can be called solar generator (standby in case of brown out)

This can be used as base load in distant houses.

4.  Recreational package (100 watts for outings out of town trips where there are no power source

5.   Solar lanterns;  solar charger, solar fan to cool cars.

#Affordablepower for the people

We discussed the following:

xxxxxx

2.  Showing us demo product of a 250 watt set up in the price vicinity for plug and use system (for the masa financing and sale) with solar panel, battery and inverter.  We can show this to a subdivision developer who may want to use this in his subdivision.  We can lend a power meter to show him the savings.

3.  That we can have a MoA help finance some of his installation at 20% down payment, 3 years to pay at 12% per annum which is quite affordable.

4.  To show us or quote us which we can help market and distribute to help avert power crisis and so that people can save on power:

     1.  DC electric fan;

     2.  Kit for interment in case of brown out to run dvd, pa system, tv;

     3.  Recreational kit for travel, all saints day to light sections of memorial park that are not Estate (no grid power connections) that can power lamps, radio, etc

We also talked about things that are not within our power:   bias of ERC towards big and traditional power players;  the lack of understanding by people in high places towards renewables.

Thank you

Affordable #viableproducts for the people

#solarpanels at every rooftop

I realized my mistake last year regarding the launch of solar why we did not get anywhere.  We were concentrating on the mumbo jumbo of lcoe, kW, inverters, batteries. Everybody was eyeing the big bucks.  The megaWatts installation. We wanted to sell and finance rooftop system for churches and institutions. It takes some time for them to decide. And everybody wants to get a piece of that action  We did not have any viable product that people can relate to or buy (they call at MVP for start ups - minimum viable product,)

It reminds me a story on the movie jobs, when a hobby parts owner who initially ordered from Steve Jobs, rejected the superior mother boards made by Steve Wozniak. He rejected the delivery because the buyer/consumer can not relate or can not get a product from the mother board.  For a computer nerd, he can get see something from the board.  But not the other buyers.  They would like to have monitor and keyboard (an input device) which Steve Jobs and company failed to deliver.

We should see the business (as is being told and we do not know how to put this into practice) as something usable, practical and viable for the customer (tama yong MVP)

1.  Like a plug and play package with solar panel (250, inverter and battery.  No mumbo jumbo.  Easy to use

2.  An outdoor package that you can use for outdoor or camping (so as not to drain the RV batteries nor cause pollution and noise by running the genset.

3.  A back up system for an event:   presentation, computer, ceremonies, wedding

4.  Other products:

    1.  LED lamps

    2.  DC electric fan

Discussion with solar supplier Mr. Bartolome of Lightview Enterprises

Hi Sir:

Thank you for coming over and I appreciate your very kind gesture at such a short notice.

We discussed the following:

1.  How can we continue the back up project at Holy Gardens Calamba Solar which was pending at the time of Mr. Borejon but was not executed?

Your existing proposal of P75,000 which covers inverter and two 200 mAH batteries or 4 100 mAH batteries and power inverters I understand needs updating.

8 malls to be solar powered before end of 2014

Affordable power for the people

Rizal  Philippines  |  December 1, 2014

More and more commercial establishments and home are realizing the value of solar as a wise investment.  We invest only if the thing bought does two things:   increase output and reduce expenses.  Solar panel does both.

So it wa featured in Rappler that 8 malls will have solar power by year end of 2014.  These are:

Why has petroleum price dropped below $70.00/barrel?

Affordable power for the people

Rizal  Philippines  December 1, 2014

Petroleum oil products has breached the $70.00 per barrel floor price? The BE price is $80.00;  below that and the Arabs suffer? Why is this so?  We thought the price of petroleum  products are going down because of shortage (oil is to run out in 30 years) but several factors are at play why this is happening:

1. OPEC is not so solid anymore;   they are busting quotas in order to finance their govt which has no other source except oil;

2.  US is producing more energy;

3.  EU and the rest of the world have decreasing economic output and thus energy demand;

4.  The RE (renewable energy) is taking its toll on fossil, traditional fuel source.

We hope the drop continues.   From a high of P40.00/liter of diesel fuel, it is down to P34.00 and fares should go down too.

Current cost of solar panels and installation

Rizal Philippines   |  December 1, 2014

From Cleantecnica - what is the current cost of solar installations

Solar panel cost guide

I talked to solar power suppliers from Binan Laguna:  Joey Loyola, the GM, and his marketing man Irwin, a drug rep.   They have installed 70 units all ready.  He claims that he has deep connection to supplier. We had to part ways with AV Power system because of delayed deliveries, and inability to service quickly our concern.

I found their price to be rather stiff:

Using Norwegian REC panels with inverters and battery (off grid system - it means it can work at nighttime, and off Meralco system;  it will work during brown out)

Apologies for solar air con post

Rizal Philippines  | December 1, 2014

This post would like to apologize for posts on solar aircon.  We have been flooded with inquiries but there are two reasons why we could not deliver/nor answer well the inquiries:

1.   We lost contact with our supplier (JUSCO in SBMA);  we did not have a signed marketing agreement;  I was told they could not get supply too at the price they published;

2.  We have been told they do not work after sometime.  The solar aircon theory work against thermo dynamics.  It is the pressure from the compressor and not the temperature that drives the air con dynamics.

It looked like a great product.   We could have been involved in a scam had we sold the product that does not work

What works?   Solar panels, wind turbine, energy conservation.

For the aircon, DC aircon (or with inverters) with solar panel work to save on electricity.  But then again they are awfully expensive
